Thank you, James. I am learning so much, writing my book, as you know, about the powerful part of story- telling.

What a wonderful story, Amba!

I love that idea of getting interested in getting interested ❤️

It somehow encapsulates the essence of marriage to perfection.

My husband LOVES out rigging paddling and similarly, it wasn't my thing and it still isn't. But I have learned to appreciate it and enjoy going to the races with our daughters because I love him and I want to support him. Now we love it and it's always a fun day out supporting Daddy.

Happy 80th birthday!

So sorry to be responding to you so long after your beautiful post, Veronica. I just saw this...don't know how I skipped it. Sometimes, I just get so "busy," not attending to what is most important in all of life: Relationship!!!

Thank you for your birthday wishes.

Thank you for listening deeply to what supports the "essence of marriage."

Thank you for generating your own orientation around "supporting Daddy."

And thank you for caring for forwarding Substack writers.

An absolutely delightful story Amba. I'm in the middle of moving homes and at 11 pm at the end of a very long day yesterday I got back to our still current home and it started to rain. I realized I had left a window open in a room in the new house that was freshly painted and that the rain would blow through the window and soak the walls and floor if I didn't go back and close it. Exhausted and upset I would be missing sleep, I dragged myself to the car to make the trip back to the new house and close the window. I had seen your essay arrive earlier in the day and since I hadn't had time to read it, I decided to have it read to me through the app.

I share all that because I wanted you to know that your story completely transformed my mood. By the time I got back to the new house I was grinning ear to ear and had more energy than I had at the beginning of the day. The image of a bag of peanuts sailing over the heads of a crowd and landing with a satisfying smack into your palm, and hearing about how you transformed your judgement about baseball into shared delight with your husband was a home run! God is in the details as they say and through the shared simple divine details of your story I was lifted up and sailed through the extra-curricular tasks of the day with joy.

Thank you for stealing a few bases for me at the 9th inning of the my day. I really needed the help.

This comment is genius. Rick, you’ve been a base-stealer for me in the past too. 🙏

Amba, the message of getting interested in getting interested is so essential. Thank you for wrapping a fun and beautiful story around it. Also, I especially love the way you “show” us with all the details of hot dogs, peanuts, and dialog with Don! ❤️
